How to get Diwali Gifts for Kids

Diwali – the festival of light, is the most celebrated festival in India where gift giving has always been one of the most important aspects of the celebration. Kids tend to be most excited about the occasion – especially when it comes to Diwali gifts. The adults also seem to have a big dilemma on what gifts to give kids on Diwali.

So, here's how I tried to come up with a simple solution, with some tips to shop for Diwali gifts for kids.

Spare some thoughts over this issue. Think of something fun and enjoyable to both give and receive.
Kids do not want to get boring gifts or the same gift every year. So go for something that would increase their level of excitement. For instance, new designer clothes, so that they could walk out in fashion in vogue.
If you don't want to give clothes, don't worry -- there are tons of other enticing things to go for. Keep in mind the nature and interest of the kid and buy a gift as per the kids choice. If the kids are a bit inclined to the modern fashion, you can give a beautiful kids' wrist watch or a children's bracelets.
Always give personal gifts to kids. Kids don't like to share their gifts with the other.
Fireworks as gifts will really be awesome for kids. But select the ones that are not dangerous, such as sparklers, flashers and small fountains. Read the instructions carefully and choose the appropriate gift for the age of the child.
Win a million dollar hugs and kisses by accompanying your gifts with a beautiful organza stuffed with gourmet chocolates.

Wish you a happy shopping for your cute little gang on Dusserah and Diwali.

Diwali Celebration in Mauritius

Wishing You Joy On Diwali... A sparkling wish to cheer up your near 'n dear ones on Diwali.

This is something that I learned from my cousin who stays in Mauritius – Eastern coast of Madagascar. Diwali is celebrated hugely out there. I never knew this. In Mauritius, they celebrate Diwali with heartfelt honor and great devotion with lots of fireworks, sweet, lights and special dishes. They make all the traditional Indian sweets such as gulab jamun, kanawla, Motichur laddu etc. and invite friends and relatives, share gifts, decorates their houses with electric lamps and diyas - traditional oil lamps with decorative earthen pots. Diwali is a great festival to Mauritians!!! I wish I could have been there this year, because I'm really keen to see the glory of Diwali at Mauritius.

Happy Diwali to Mauritians!

How to Purchase
Walk into a well established light store in the market. While purchasing the electric lamps for Diwali, look for a genuine dealer. You can come across loads of seasonal dealers selling the electrical lights just before Diwali. But it is safe to purchase lamps from a well known dealer, because you can find a good assortment of stuff there. And he can assure you the high quality items.

Before picking a light set, make sure that it works well and is free from any leakage or short circuit.

Compare price with the other well known dealers in the market. Remember that the price may be higher as compared to that offered by the seasonal sellers, but it is advisable not to pick things from the seasonal stores

Celebrate Diwali With Motichoor Laddu

Diwali is never complete without sweets. You've got to have loads of sweets if you're planning to celebrate Diwali. My favorite ones are the home made ones that my mom used to make. It's not a big deal really. Here's something that I love very much, it's called "Motichoor Laddu". Motichoor Laddu has become an inseparable part of the Diwali Celebration because every household would have it in Diwali. It's a favorite of Indian kids big and small! Here's a recipe that you can make too:

Ingredients
1. Gram Flour – 3 cups
2. Water – 2 cups
3. Sugar – 4 cups
4. Rice Flour – 3 tablespoons
5. Oil

Direction
Step 1: Take the gram flour in large bowl and pour some water. Mix it well into a white thick batter.
Step 2: Heat oil in a large round pan some sometime. Line the pan with a strainer that fits on the pan.
Step 3: Use a slotted spoon and tap the gram flour mixture through the holes into the hot oil.
Step 4: Fry the mixture well into "boondi" -- small round balls of sweet. Don't over fry it. It should be only fried for 5-6 minutes. When done, lift the strainer with the boondi and spread it on a paper towel so that the excess of oil is soaked.
Step 5: Put the boondi into a bowl full of water immediately and remove right afterwards. Now you are ready with the boondis.
Step 6: Boil water and sugar to make the a syrup.
Step 7: Take 3 tablespoons of syrup and on a non-stick pan until you get the froth. Add the boondis and stir it well for some time. When it starts leaving the side of the pan easily you can say for sure that you're ready. Remove it from heat and let it cool down. While it's still a bit warm take little amount from the mixture and make it into a small ball. This way you can make number of balls of equal size. And you are ready with your Motichoor Laddu!

You can win hearts of your guests by serving this awesome homemade Motichoor Laddu on Diwali. If you want to learn some more special sweets for Diwali, check out Diwali Sweets. Send sweet Diwali wishes and special thoughts to your friends on Diwali and let them feel how sweetly and warmly you think of them. Send them your Diwali invitation to be your guests to share some special moments with you and plates full of Motichoor Laddus.

How To Wash Rugs At Home For Diwali

With Diwali just around the corner, we should start the preparing for it by now. Cleaning our homes and decorating them are the first steps for Diwali preparation.
If you're having beautiful oriental rugs to wash and looking for the right person whom you can offload your headache on, you're probably on the wrong track. Cleaning carpets can be really expensive. Oriental woolen rugs are easy to wash. So if you have a bit of time on your hands you should better do it yourself. Here's how:

Step 1: Vacuum clean the rugs both sides well to wipe of the dusts first.

Step 2: Use high quality stain removers like ... to spot clean the stain. It's better if you test it in an invisible area to see if the colors run.

Step3: Take the rug outside and place it over a plain area and wet it thoroughly with a garden hose. Pour liquid mild cleaner in a bucket full of cold water. Using clean sponge mop apply the suds thoroughly over the rug's surface. Rub it gently.

Step 4: Rinse the rug well when you are done with applying suds.

Step 5: Remove excess water. Let it lay flat under the sun for sometime and then take it away from the direct sun as it may cause the color to fade out.

Just imagine how easy it is! You can save a lot of money out there too. And you can have some extra fun – extra sweets, extra fireworks and extra decors with whatever money that you're saving. Isn't that a good idea? Have a safe and happy Diwali. Wish and be wished with lots of good wishes by your near and dear ones across the globe. Reach out to your loved ones with your innermost thoughts who will not be with you this Dusserah and Diwali.

Happy Dussehra

More About Use Of Fireworks On Diwali!

Hi! I wrote about fire works the other day and I wanted to share a little bit more about the firecrackers. Fireworks in Diwali really sound like fun but you have to be careful too. That's the reason that the Supreme Court of India banned using fireworks between 10 PM to 6 AM on Diwali. So if you're traveling back to India make sure you don't break the law. A lot of people think the timing is for 11 pm to 5 am.

While the Indian government set a time for us to enjoy fireworks, government of Fiji and Nepal have banned fireworks altogether. There were so much of fireworks being used in those countries it raised the level of smog! Not to mention the sound pollution. That's really sad because I can't imagine a Diwali without fireworks.

I just want to tell you to have a happy and safe Diwali in advance and make sure you have some fun. If you are staying away from your family and friends on this Diwali, don't worry. Just reach out to them with lots of Diwali Wishes. Send Diwali firework ecards to make them feel the warmth of your presence.

Diwali Interior Decoration

Diwali is close at the hand. And it's already the time for adorning yourself and your home. If your living place is lacking brightness and you don't find how to regain its lost glamor, don't worry. You don't have to spend much on buying new furnitures and expensive decors. Interior decoration is all about planned art or artistic plan -- any way you take it. And believe me subtle strokes of decoration will be good enough. Just paint the walls of your home with bright and elegant colors, throw in some bright colored cushions, dry wash the curtains and rugs, put some elegant decors on the corner racks of the room, put a classy bedspread on the bed or sofa and see the magic. Your room will get a brighter look without much time and money spent.

Bells and Diyas
If you want to come up with little more decoration, conventional bells and diyas will give your room a wonderful effect. A classy assortment of bells of different sizes hanged at different heights at the corner of your room will just be great. And in just the opposite corner you can put some diyas to add an ethnic touch to the decoration.

Lights
Experimenting with lights and lamp shades will just be great, as Diwali is a festival of light. Put some personal touch to your lighting – with a little difference. Local lighting fixtures stores will be waved by a huge collection of wonderful lampsheds, rates will be inexpensive too.

Now you are ready to invite friends on this diwali. Send Diwali invitation.

So friends, just freak out to celebrate this Diwali by planning a spectacular firework show for your locality and you can enhance the everyone's enjoyment in this very special occasion. But choosing of fireworks is one of the most significant thing that we all should bear in our mind to play safe.

Just follow five easy steps.

First, contact your local fire department and ask about the rules and regulations concerning fireworks in your area.

Second, plan for the size and scope of the show. For example, if you are planning for a small Diwali firework show for friends, family and their kids, just don't go beyond skycrackers (rockets), sparklers and fountains.

Third, since Diwali lights and fireworks symbolises the defeat of demons in Hindu folklore, just schedule you firework show time to coincide the perfect moment .... may be "Narake Chaturdasi" -- the second day of the festival. That would be meaningful.

Fourth, purchase fireworks from the renowned companies, as they can assure good quality and you can prevent the chances of accidents. Still accidents may happen anywhere and at
any time. So play safe and don't allow kids to come near the crackers. Let them handle the safe ones like sparklers only.

Fifth, safety first. Arrange for a couple of fire extinguishers and always keep the contact details of the local fire stations in your wallet. This will save a lot of time if anything uncanny happens. Keep kids at a safe distance.
